AL leader held in sabotage case in Gopalganj
Police have arrested a local leader of the Awami League from Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj in connection with a sabotage case filed over an incident last year.

The detainee, Md Nayeb Ali Khan, 60, is the vice-president of the Maheshpur union unit Awami League and a resident of Baspur village in the upazila.

According to Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kashiani Police Station, police carried out a late-night drive at his residence following a tip-off and detained him.

Police said Nayeb Ali Khan was named in a sabotage case linked to an incident on July 16, 2024.

On that day, supporters of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations allegedly blocked a programme of the National Citizen Party (NCP) by felling trees on the Dhaka–Khulna highway in the Majra area, causing panic and disrupting traffic movement.

The arrested leader will be produced before a court, police added.
