Ranesh Maitra, a journalist and columnist who won the Ekushey Padak, passed away early on Monday in a local hospital. He was 90.

Md. Shamsul Haque Tuku, the deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, expressed his condolences on Maitra's passing.
He was born on October 4th, 1933, in Nahata village, Rajshahi district. Maitra graduated from Govt Edward College in Pabna with an IA in 1955 and a BA in 1959.
