According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), a total of 1,235 out of 13,491 mobile towers in ten flood-affected districts are currently out of service due to the floods.
The affected districts include Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Feni, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, and Sylhet, as stated in a BTRC press release issued on Friday.
The Bangladesh Army has stepped in to assist by providing vessels and speedboats to transport equipment, generators, and fuel to mobile and tower operators to help restore services. However, towers that have been submerged will remain non-operational until the floodwaters recede.
In areas where mobile networks have been restored, authorities are providing charging facilities powered by generators.
Due to worsening flood conditions in Moulvibazar and Sylhet, there is a risk of further telecommunication disruptions. Nonetheless, mobile operators and tower operators are working diligently to restore mobile network services.
