A Facebook page falsely attributed to Bangladesh‍‍`s renowned actor, poet, and songwriter Marzuk Russell has been posting updates on various topics, including the quota reform movement and controversial remarks about the administration.

Disclaiming any connection to these posts, which have caused confusion among the people, Marzuk Russell filed a complaint at the Detective Branch office on Minto Road in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon, seeking resolution.

In a media statement, Russell expressed his frustration, saying, “Someone has been misusing my name and image to post inciting content from this account. I have no involvement with it, and it has caused considerable embarrassment.”

Russell, who has been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry for 20-25 years, noted that the misleading posts have confused many people, except for those familiar with his work and lifestyle. He added, “I met with Harun Sir (Additional Commissioner and Chief of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Harun or Rashid) today to address this issue and seek action against those behind these fake pages.”

Although Russell does have a Facebook account, he clarified that it is not yet verified. He is in the process of seeking verification to prevent future issues.

Previously, Russell had raised concerns with the cybercrime department, filing a complaint on August 18 last year about similar fake pages spreading unpleasant content. He said, “Fans are getting confused, and I don’t know who is running these fake accounts.”

Marzuk Russell, a celebrated songwriter known for his collaborations with rock icon James, Ayub Bachchu, Asif Akbar, and Habib Wahid, gained mainstream recognition for his role in Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s film Bachelor in 2004. He has continued to act in television dramas, feature in commercials, and be appreciated in the literary community as a poet.
