Model and actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury have been granted bail in a case filed over embezzlement of BDT 2.7 million, threats, and intimidation related to a promised family business partnership.

On Sunday (16 November), they surrendered in court and applied for bail.

According to the complaint filed by Amirul Islam, taking advantage of a long-standing acquaintance, Mehazabien and her brother promised to make him a partner in a new family business. Based on this promise, they received a total of BDT 2.7 million through cash and mobile banking (bKash). However, they did not initiate any business activities and repeatedly delayed repayment when asked.

The complaint further stated that on 11 February, when the victim asked for his money, he was asked to meet at a restaurant near Hatirjheel Road on 16 March. Upon arrival,Mehazabien, her brother, and several unidentified individuals verbally abused him with obscene language and threatened, "If we see you in front of our house asking for money, we will kill you." This left the victim in severe fear.

After the incident, the victim approached Vatara Police Station, and following their advice, filed the case in the Executive Magistrate Court under sections 107/117(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Earlier, on 10 November, a warrant was issued against Mehazabien and her brother by Executive Magistrate Court-3 Judge Afroza Tania for failing to appear on the scheduled court date. The court has set 18 December for submitting a report on their arrest.
