Popular Dhallywood actor Pori Moni organised a press conference at her Banani home. This happened a few hours after she posted the attempts of rape and murder on her life from her verified Facebook page on Sunday evening (June 13). She accused Nasir U Mahmud, a member of the executive committee (Culture & Entertainment) of Dhaka Boat Club, of these wrongdoings. Mahmud was also one of the founder members of the Uttara club and its Vice President.
Pori Moni claimed that four days ago Nasir U Mahmud assaulted her. Mahmud is yet to make any comment on the issue.
According to Pori, she went out with her family friend Omi and personal makeup artist Jimi. Omi took them to the River Boat Club in Ashulia and introduced her to some people who were drinking there. Pori claims Mahmud was among these people and tried to force her to drink alcohol. She also described that Mahmud lost his temper and then beat up Pori and sexually assaulted her. He also threatens to rape and murder her.
After this situation, the waiters helped them out of there and Pori claims this chain of events are recorded in the club’s CCTV cameras.
She also announced she is feeling very insecure and if she dies suddenly then it will not be suicide rather murder. She broke into tears while explaining these to the journalists.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Headquarters (Media) Sohel Rana told the media regarding Pori’s status and press brief that the police will take necessary steps if she files a written complaint.
Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty, the deputy commissioner of Gulshan division police, told the press that they have seen the status and Facebook post. They advised her to file a written complaint at Banani or Mirpur’s Rupnagar station as her home and the place of incident was based in these two police stations. If she files the complaint they will work with Mirpur’s police division to solve this case as soon as possible.
Pori Moni claimed that attempts of rape and murder were made upon her. She made these claims on her official Facebook page on Sunday evening (June 13). The initial post did not disclose the identity of the alleged perpetrator.
The post was addressed to the Prime Minister. She wrote, “I was physically assaulted and attempts have been made to rape and kill me. I want justice.” She also claimed that the law enforcement agencies did not help her.
The post instantly went viral and netizens came up with different theories both for and against her claims.
The post claimed that Banani Police Station did not take her case that night though several media outlets communicated with Banani Police Station’s Officer in Charge (OC) Nure Azam Miah who denied such claims. He said Shamsunnahar Smrity, also known by the stage name Pori Moni, did not come to the station to file such complaints. He also added anyone with such complaints would have received necessary action.
But, after the press conference, the Gulshan division’s police officers told media outlets that she did come to Banani station that night but she seemed ‘intoxicated’ and was sent to Ever Care hospital by a team of police officers. She was told to communicate with the police after she felt better. According to them, she did not communicate with the police after that night.
Moreover, Rupnagar police station’s OC was seen during the press conference held at her home on Sunday night.
Pori Moni, born and raised in Narail, made her silver screen debut back in 2015. Since then she starred in more than 20 Dhallywood films as the lead cast.
