A Dhaka court has granted police three days to interrogate Junayed Karim Jimmy, costume designer of Dhallywood star Pori Moni, in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Masud-ur-Rahman passed the order on Saturday (August 7), after police’s Detective Branch (DB) Inspector and case investigation officer Abdus Sobhan produced Jimmy before the court, according to recent press reports.
Citing the court’s general recording department officials, it said Sobhan had sought a 10-day remand while Jimmy’s lawyers submitted a bail plea.
The court heard the arguments of both sides and granted the police three days to grill Jimmy.
Detectives had arrested him from Gulshan on Friday (August 6). Later, DB Sub-Inspector (Gulshan zone) Uday Kumar Mandal filed the drugs case against him at Banani police station.
DB’s Joint Commissioner Harun Ur Rashid said: “We have detained the person who was seen causing trouble at the Dhaka Boat Club with Pori Moni.
“We have also recovered drugs from his Gulshan home.”
A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) team detained actress Pori Moni, whose real name is Shamsunnahar Smriti, on Wednesday (August 4) during a raid at her Banani home.
As many as 19 bottles of liquor, four grams of ice or crystal meth, and a blot of LSD were found at her flat, said RAB.
On Thursday (August 5), a Dhaka court gave investigators four days to interrogate Pori Moni in two cases started by RAB. Three of her associates were also remanded for four days.
Pori Moni had made waves on both mass media and social media back in mid-June after accusing several people, including businessmen Nasir U Mahmood and Tuhin Siddique Omi, of attempting to rape and murder her.
She had also filed a case against them with Savar police.
Nasir and Omi were arrested in the case and they managed to secure bail later.
Police later also found discrepancies in Pori Moni’s claims made regarding the charges she made against them.
