Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has voiced his support for students protesting in Delhi over allegations of question paper leaks in India. While several leading Bollywood celebrities have faced criticism on social media for remaining silent on the issue, Salman expressed solidarity with the protesting students by sharing a black-and-white photograph from his own student days.
Several members of the Khan, Kapoor, and Bachchan families, along with many other Bollywood stars, have not made any public comments on the matter. However, after Salman’s post, some fans praised him on social media, writing, “Tiger abhi zinda hai” (“The Tiger is still alive”).
Late Wednesday night (July 22), Salman Khan shared a black-and-white picture from his student life on Instagram and wrote:
It was such a peaceful movement, feel so sad that it had to take a violent turn. My heart goes out to the students and their families who were hurt. Paper leak is a very serious issue, and I am glad to know and see that the kids of our country have come together for a better educational system, and their parents supported them.
I truly appreciate the stand they have taken, showing dedication, sincerity, and keenness to study hard and make their future and a greater, educated India. This andolan, this protest, is the right way to go about it, and the students have done this peacefully. So courageous and brave. Driven and motivated towards education, this generation will make India proud.
This issue is between the students and the educational system. It should not be hijacked politically. The credit should only go to the students of our country, and I am sure the government will also give them all the support and make it a stronger educational system. It`s a win-win situation. Hoping and praying for a positive decision. God bless all of you who want to be educated.
Education should be the next trend and fashion, and should get trendier and more fashionable year by year, so much so that people from abroad come to India to study and India becomes an educational hub.
While supporting the students’ demands, Salman Khan also urged against turning the movement into a political issue. He said the focus should remain on students and education, adding that the movement’s credit belonged solely to the students.
The student protests began in early July following allegations surrounding the NEET examination scandal and demands for the resignation of the Union Education Minister. The movement is being led by educationist Sonam Wangchuk.
The protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, which continued for 25 days, took a new turn on Monday following the “Parliament March” programme organised by the Kakroach Janata Party. Police used batons, tear gas, and water cannons to disperse the protesters.
Earlier, veteran actress Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Aparna Sen, Anurag Kashyap, and singer Arijit Singh were among the celebrities who expressed support for the students’ movement. Salman Khan has now joined that list.
