A Dhaka court has postponed the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of film actor Salman Shah, setting a new date of 13 January 2026.
The report was originally scheduled to be submitted on 7 December but could not be filed as the investigation officer, Inspector Atiqul Islam Khandaker of Ramna Model Police Station, was unable to present it.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Juel Rana set the new date, according to Sub-Inspector Zinnat Ali of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Prosecution Division.
The case was filed nearly 29 years after the death of Salman Shah, whose real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar.
On 20 October 2025, Salman’s maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir Kumkum, filed the case with Ramna Police Station on behalf of Salman’s mother, Neela Chowdhury.
Eleven people, including Salman’s wife Samira Haque, her mother Latifa Haque Lusi, actor Ashraful Haque alias Don, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju, and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad, were named as accused.
According to the case statement, on 6 September 1996, Salman’s parents and younger brother Shahraan Shah visited his New Eskaton residence. They were told he was sleeping. Later, the family was informed that something had happened, and upon reaching his flat, they found Salman lying motionless with rope marks on his neck. He was rushed to Holy Family Hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Initially, Salman’s father filed an unnatural death case, and in July 1997, he petitioned the court to register it as a murder case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Over the years, the case has gone through multiple investigations. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) initially concluded in 1997 that Salman Shah had committed suicide, but his father challenged the report.
The case was later transferred to the Judicial Department and finally to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), which submitted its report in 2020.
In October 2021, the court disposed of the case after accepting the PBI’s report. A revision case was filed in 2022 claiming Salman Shah was murdered. The court has now directed the concerned authorities to submit the investigation report by 13 January 2026.
The court has also asked immigration authorities to ensure that the accused do not leave the country while the investigation continues.
