The right leg of singer Akbar Ali Gazi, whose physical condition is worsening due to various ailments including kidney-related complications, has been amputated.
He is now being treated at a private hospital, his wife Kaniz Fatema said.
"His leg got infected badly. Doctors tried their best to save that, but they had to remove the infected part of his leg on Sunday morning," Fatema said.
The ‘Ityadi’-famed singer was admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College Hospital on September 14.
On Friday, his daughter Athai took to his Facebook profile to disclose that both of her father’s kidneys were damaged and one of his legs needs to amputate soon.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina donated Tk 20 lakh for his treatment last year. He is still being treated with that donation.
Akbar, who was a rickshaw puller, became an overnight star by performing his song ‘Tomar Haat Pakhar Baatase’ on the popular television programme ‘Itiyadi’ on BTV and also starring in a music video with popular Dhallywood heroine Purnima.
