Bangladesh lost by three runs to Sri Lanka in their fifth Women`s Asia Cup encounter on Monday at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Defending champions now possess a tough road ahead to reach the semi-finals. Now that India defeated Thailand today in the afternoon, all that takes Bangladesh to reach the semi-finals is to achieve a win tomorrow. Only a win and Bangladesh will be through to the semi-finals of the Asia Cup as the Thailand women`s cricket team ended their group stage endeavour with a low run rate compared to Bangladesh while Bangladesh still living a chance to win tomorrow and make it through.
Previously, despite starting well, the Tigresses collapsed to 37 for seven in seven overs as they were up to chase down 41 in a rain-shortened match.
As the Tigresses tried massive strokes, wickets fell. Inoka Ranaweera took four wickets in two overs and allowed seven runs. Four wickets fell in the sixth over, reducing the equation to 12 off the final over, but the Bangladesh batters appeared futile to hit a boundary.
