Bangladesh`s U-19 women`s team has made a strong statement by defeating Malaysia in their final group match, securing the top spot in the group and a place in the Super Four of the Women`s U-19 Asia Cup.
The match took place on Tuesday, December 17, in Kuala Lumpur, where Bangladesh claimed a huge victory by 120 runs.
Bangladesh set a target of 150 runs after batting first, finishing with 149 runs for 5 wickets. In reply, the Malaysian team was completely overwhelmed by the Bangladesh bowlers, managing only 29 runs in 14.5 overs.
No Malaysian batter was able to score more than 5 runs, and the Bangladesh bowlers were in full control throughout the match.
Off-spinner Nishita Akter was the standout performer with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 3 runs in 3.5 overs.
Medium pacer Habiba Islam followed up with 3 wickets for 5 runs, while leg-spinner Anisa Akter took 2 wickets for 5 runs as well.
The Malaysian batters had no answers to the spinning attack, with the highest score coming from opener Nur Alia Binti Mohammad Hairun, who made just 5 runs.
Three batters scored 3 runs each, and four batters were out for just 1 run, while three others were dismissed for ducks.
When Bangladesh batted, Jannatul Mawa played an exceptional innings, scoring 45 runs off 45 balls to remain unbeaten.
She was supported by Sadia Akter, who smashed 31 runs off just 19 balls.
Together, they turned the game around after Bangladesh had lost 5 wickets for 87 runs, putting on a crucial 62-run partnership off 44 balls for the sixth wicket.
Before this partnership, the opening duo of Fahmida Tohua and Mousammi Eva gave Bangladesh a solid start, adding 45 runs for the first wicket.
Fahmida made 26 runs off 21 balls, and Mousammi contributed 19 runs off 16 balls.
With this win, Bangladesh has emerged as the group champions and will now face India and Nepal in the Super Four stage.
Sri Lanka will also be joining the Super Four as the fourth team.
The Super Four matches will take place on December 19 and 20, with the top two teams progressing to the final, which will be held on December 22.
