Bangladesh’s Under-19 women’s cricket team has stormed into the final of the Asia Cup with a dominant performance against Nepal.
In a rain-shortened Super Four match at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, Bangladesh secured a comfortable 9-wicket win to book their place in the final.
The match, initially set for more overs, was reduced to 11 due to rain. Bangladesh captain Sumaiya Akter won the toss and chose to field first, a decision that paid off as their bowlers, backed by tight fielding, kept Nepal to a meager total of 54 for 8.
Farzana Yasmin, Anisa Akter, Fahmida Chhoa, and Habiba Islam each took a wicket, while three Nepalese batters were run out.
Chasing 55, Bangladesh had no trouble reaching the target. Fahmida Chhoa led the way with an unbeaten 26 off 32 balls, hitting three boundaries.
Mosammat Eva supported her with a solid 18 runs, while Sumaiya Akter added a quick 10* from just six balls to seal the victory.
Fahmida Chhoa was named Player of the Match for her all-round performance, having earlier picked up a wicket for 14 runs in her bowling spell.
In the Super Four standings, India topped the table with 7 points from three wins and one abandoned match, while Bangladesh followed with 6 points from their three victories.
Nepal and Sri Lanka finished in third and fourth places, respectively.
India had earlier booked their spot in the final by defeating Sri Lanka. Now, Bangladesh will face India in the final on Monday, December 23.
Interestingly, Bangladesh’s men’s Under-19 team recently made headlines by beating India in the Asia Cup final on December 8.
The women’s team will be looking to replicate that success and create history of their own.
