Bangladesh suffered an injury blow of senior batter Mushfiqur Rahim and allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home, starting from next month.
Both of the players, who are playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, suffered injury during their Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game against Prime Bank Cricket Club at BKSP-4 ground today.
Miraz`s injury looked serious as his little finger was injured while he was trying to take a catch of Prime Bank opener Tamim Iqbal during the 17th over of the game.
He was quickly taken to dressing room and later was sent to a hospital adjacent to BKSP. His hand was seen bandaged after taking the treatment.
Mushfiqur Rahim`s left ankle was hurt while he was fielding in the boundary line during the 10th over of the innings. Ice was given on the injury place after he was taken to the dressing room.
"Mushfiqur`s injured place was administered with ice. But we`ll get to know about his condition once we go back to Dhaka. Miraz`s little finger was hurt. There was a fracture in the injured place. After all tests, we can say clearly about Miraz," Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club team manager Mohammad Rafique said here today.
But both Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Miraz were drafted in the Bangladesh squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka which will be held from May 15 to 19 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said that their injuries are not serious.
"Miraz has a finger injury which required 8-10 days to recover. So we hope we`ll get him from the first match. We haven`t got anything official yet on Mushfiqur Rahim. As far as I am concerned the seriousness and the extent of his injury will be known only after 24 hours," Abdein said here today.
