Even though Bangladesh lost the third ODI to Afghanistan by five wickets and the series 2-1, there was a silver lining: the strong debut performance of fast bowler Nahid Rana.
Rana, who has already made a name for himself in Test cricket with 14 wickets in just five matches, played his first ODI in the series-deciding third game.
Despite the team’s defeat, Rana’s pace and energy on the field stood out. His performance in the match was a glimpse of what the future could hold for Bangladesh’s fast bowling.
In his 10-over spell, Rana took 2 wickets for 40 runs, including one maiden over. But his impact went beyond just the figures.
From the very start, he was consistently bowling at speeds of around 145 km/h, and at one point, he even touched 151 km/h, showing off his impressive pace.
Bangladesh’s head coach, Phil Simmons, was quick to praise Rana’s effort. Speaking at the post-match press conference, he said, “You can’t buy pace. It’s something you’re born with, and Rana has it. He bowled exceptionally well today, and we’re excited about his potential.”
Simmons also mentioned that the team would work on developing Rana’s skills further, saying, “He has the right attitude and a natural ability to bowl fast. I really like what I’m seeing.”
Rana’s debut also caught the attention of former West Indies fast bowler and cricket commentator Ian Bishop.
Bishop took to social media to highlight Rana’s potential, suggesting that Bangladesh should make sure to provide the young pacer with the best possible support.
He posted, “Bangladesh should invest in top strength and conditioning experts, along with dieticians, for Nahid Rana and the fast bowling group. His pace is very impressive.”
With such high praise from respected cricket figures, Rana’s future in international cricket looks promising.
Many are hopeful that with the right coaching and support, he will continue to develop into a key player for Bangladesh’s pace attack.
