Brazilian superstar Neymar faces trial in Spain for suspected irregularities in his transfer to Barcelona nearly ten years ago, one month before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar.
The 30-year-old star player and his parents, whose company controls his affairs, are both on trial in Barcelona on Monday following a protracted legal battle over his 2013 transfer from the Brazilian side Santos.
Three people are accused of business corruption.
After DIS, a Brazilian business that held 40% of the player`s sporting rights while he was playing for Santos, filed a complaint in 2015, investigators started looking into the transaction.
Barcelona claims the transfer cost 57.1 million euros, but the prosecution estimates it to have cost at least 83 million.
Although it has not been officially confirmed, Neymar is expected to appear in court when the trial begins and will give a testimony on either October 21 or October 28.
