Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal has signed up to play in an Indian franchise league. He will represent the MP Tigers in the Big Cricket League (BCL), a lesser-known tournament in India.
During the players` draft held on Saturday, November 30, Tamim was picked for $15,000.
Several retired cricket stars also took part in the draft. Tamim’s MP Tigers teammates include Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Munaweera and India’s Naman Ojha, Stuart Binny, and Amit Mishra.
In addition, former Indian cricketers Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, and Shikhar Dhawan, as well as South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs, were also drafted by various teams.
The Big Cricket League is similar to the Legends Cricket League, as it mainly involves retired players.
The league`s commissioner is former Indian captain and chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar, and West Indies legend Courtney Walsh, who also coached Bangladesh’s bowlers in the past, serves as the vice president.
The tournament will feature six teams, with each team forming an 18-player squad.
A total of 15 league matches will be played, followed by two playoff games and a final. However, the exact dates of the tournament are yet to be confirmed.
Tamim, who has been away from the game due to injury, was expected by many to make a return to the Bangladesh national team, but that hasn’t happened yet.
However, he is likely to return to the field in the upcoming NCL T20 League starting on December 11.
His participation in this Indian franchise league could be the beginning of a fresh chapter in his career, and fans are excited to see him back in action.
