The Turkey national football team ended their World Cup campaign on a high with a thrilling 3–2 victory over the United States men`s national soccer team in Group D, but were still eliminated after losing their opening two matches.
Already out of contention before kickoff, Turkey produced a spirited display against the group leaders in Los Angeles on Friday, sealing victory with a stoppage-time goal in the eighth minute of added time.
The match began at a frantic pace, with the United States taking the lead in the 3rd minute through Auston Trusty. Turkey responded quickly, equalising seven minutes later when Arda Güler found the net.
In the 31st minute, Barış Alper Yılmaz put Turkey ahead after a pass from Eren Elmalı, giving them a 2–1 lead at half-time.
The United States struck back early in the second half, with Sebastian Berhalter scoring a stunning long-range equaliser in the 49th minute.
Both sides pushed for a winner in an open and tense finish, but it was Turkey who ultimately prevailed. In the 98th minute, Kaan Ayhan scored to secure a dramatic 3–2 win.
Despite the defeat, the United States finished top of Group D and advanced to the knockout stage. Turkey, however, exited the tournament after finishing their group campaign with one win and two losses.
