West Indies announce squads for Bangladesh ODI and T20I series

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squads for the upcoming three-match ODI and three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Shai Hope will captain the side in both formats.

The ODI squad includes batsman Akim August, who has been called up for the first time, while spinner Khari Pierre, who made his Test debut against India in Ahmedabad earlier this month, returns to the ODI side. In the T20I squad, left-arm pacer Ramon Simmonds and batsman Amir Jangu, who debuted against Nepal, have been included.

The West Indies tour will begin with the first ODI in Dhaka on 18 October, with all three ODIs scheduled in Dhaka. The T20I series will take place in Chattogram from 27 to 31 October.

Notably, ODI opener Evin Lewis is missing from the squad due to an ongoing shoulder injury, with August taking his place. Olick Athanaze, who last played an ODI in December last year, also returns to the squad.

Spinner Khari Pierre will support the spin attack alongside Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase. Pacer Shamar Joseph is included in both formats after missing the recent Test series against India due to injury.

Ramon Simmonds, who took 15 wickets for Barbados Royals in the recent CPL, made his T20I debut in the Nepal series, claiming four wickets in the third match. Amir Jangu also debuted in that series, finishing the final game with an unbeaten 74-run innings.

After announcing both squads, CWI coach Darren Sammy said in a statement on the official website: “This team will go onto the field with a winning mindset and a strong sense of team unity. Both qualities are crucial for long-term success. The Bangladesh tour is another opportunity for us to secure direct qualification for the World Cup.”

Sammy added, “Selecting Akim highlights how West Indies cricket is creating pathways for emerging players. He has progressed from the under-15 level to the senior team and represents the future of our cricket.”
