Allegation of irregularities against JCD President and Secretary

Several allegations of irregularities have been raised against the president and general secretary of Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dol (JCD). 

Allegation includes biased election procedure, conducting voting under controlled circumstances, the violence of JCD’s constitution, and selecting the person who had involvement with the Bangladesh Chhatra League’s politics. 

Convening member of DU Chhatra Dol Nahiduzzaman Shipon and  Joint convener of SM hall JCD Ilias Hossain made these allegations while discussing the new committee of Salimullah Muslim hall unit. 

However, Abdur Rahim Rony who has been carrying out his duty as a Joint convener of DU Chhatra Dol was made president of SM hall Chhatra Dol while Tariqul Islam, Member Secretary of DU Chhatra Dol was made General Secretary. 

A press release signed by Convener of Dhaka University Chhatra Dol Rakibul Islam Rakib and Member Secretary Amanullah Aman confirmed this last Thursday.

A total of 13 members were part of the poll including central president and general secretary Fazlur Rahman Khokon and Iqbal Hossain Shamol respectively, Convener of DU unit Rakibul Islam Rakib, Member Secretary Amanullah Aman, and candidate of the hall. 

According to the constitution of JCD, the central body cannot take part in the poll while electing Upazilla equivalent committee leaders but this time four central committee members take part in the election. 

Protesting the incident, senior Joint Secretary of JCD Aminur Rahman Amin and Nahiduzzaman Shipon boycotted the poll and left the place. 

Despite the candidates’ nonconformity, the top leaders of JCD have announced the new leaders amidst irregularities to ensure the leadership of their “my man”, said Mr. Shipon.

“Dhaka University Hall units except SM hall got new leaders in March 2020; they hold the committee to favor their close persons for a long time." 

Ilias Hossain, Joint convener of SM hall JCD said, “Tariqul Islam who has been ‘elected’ as general secretary was involved in the politics of the Bangladesh Chhatra League. “In 2012 Tariqul hit me for my involvement with JCD.” 

Another two candidates Raju Ahmed and Nasir Uddin Shaon said, “We were expecting a free and fair election but the situation was quite different. We had to vote under controlled circumstances.”

Denying the allegation Tariqul said, “They are making false allegations to question this committee. I had no involvement with the Chhatra League.”

He added that they spontaneously take part in the voting and now they making false allegations, how seleucus! 

However, after several attempts, this correspondent couldn’t get the comment of any concerned person.
