On Wednesday, a Dhaka University student of Bijay Ekattor Hall lost consciousness after being tortured at the ‘guest room’.
The victim, Akhter Hossain is a first-year student of Mass Communication and Journalism department of the university, was called to the ‘guest room’ and asked the reason for his absence at the 'guest room' at a stage the alleged students started torturing Akhter.
The victim filed a written complaint with the Provost of the Hall Professor Abdul Basir, according to the written complaint,
In the written complaint victim brought allegations against Kamruzzaman Raju of Sociology Department, Saiful Islam of International Relations Department, Saiful Islam Rohan of Public Administration Department, Hridoy Ahmed Kajal of History Department, Yamin Islam of Social Welfare Department, and Omar Farooq Shuvo of Psychology Department. All of them are from the 2019-20 session student.
It is learned that the accused are followers of Chhatra League candidates Abu Yunus and Rabiul Islam Rana. And Yunus and Rana are followers of Saddam Hussein, the general secretary of the Dhaka University BCL.
Abu Yunus said, “We don’t know anything about today’s ‘guest room’.” Meeting the provost of the hall he requested to the provost to ensure exemplary punishment for those involved in the incident.
Rabiul Islam Rana also urged the administration alike Younus.
According to sources, “First-year students were gathered following yesterday’s ‘guest room’ but the victim Akhtar was absent due to his illness. When the seniors called him to the ‘guest room’ and asked the reason for his absence he informed about his illness.”
“At a stage accused Raju, Kajal, Yamim, Saiful, Rohan, and Shuvo asked him to glance to the lamp for an hour. When he was doing as same as seniors said he became senseless and sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment,” sources said.
When he came back after treatment the accused was threatening him continuously not to share this to anyone.
Hall Provost Abdul Basir met with the victim and assured him of the security in the hall.
Mr. Basir said, “An inquiry committee would be formed in this regard. The investigation report will be submitted within three working days. If the allegations are proved, they will be given maximum punishment.
At the same time, he called upon the leaders of the Chhatra League to play a positive role and said, “It is very sad that I had to come to the office at the late-night for a heinous doing of students.”
