Police have detained 54 individuals in connection with the recent attack on the vehicle of Hasnat Abdullah, a senior leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP), in Gazipur.

According to police, most of the detainees are affiliated with the Awami League and its associated organisations. However, as of Monday morning, no formal complaint or case had been filed regarding the incident.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan stated that members of the ousted government were behind the attack, claiming it was carried out to provoke unrest and create new issues.

Following the assault on Hasnat’s vehicle, several police teams launched operations to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The crackdown led to the arrest of 54 suspects. Commissioner Nazmul confirmed that legal proceedings are underway.

Initial arrests included Ward No. 13 Jubo League leader Nizam Uddin and Masum Ahmed Dipu, president of the Sheikh Russell Shishu Kishore Parishad under Kashimpur Police Station. Both were picked up from the Basan area of Gazipur. Subsequent raids across the city resulted in the detention of dozens more.
