In an ugly turn of events, two officers of Bangladesh Railway Police were injured in a clash with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members over luggage checking of some passengers on a train in Benapole on Sunday.
The injured are Setafur Rahman and Intajul Haque, who were taken to a local hospital, reports UNB.
Md Monim, a railway policeman, engaged in an altercation with some members of BGB when the border guards were trying to check the luggage of some passengers of ‘the Bandhan Express’ train on Dhaka-Kolkata route, said a railway official.
As Monim did not allow the BGB men to check the luggage of the passengers without the presence of a customs officer, BGB men forcibly picked up Monim in their vehicle and tried to take him to the BGB camp.
While Momin's colleagues tried to snatch him away, the BGB men attacked them, leaving the two injured.
Contacted, commanding officer of BGB-49, Lieutenant Colonel Minhaz Siddique, said it was a case of misunderstanding between the two forces, which will be sorted out soon.
