50 units of fire service and civil defense are working to control the terrible fire that spread in four markets of Bangabazar in the capital. Apart from this, the fire also spread to two other markets including the Annex market. It was not possible to bring the situation under control even though six hours have passed since the fire broke out at around 6:30 am on Tuesday (March,4).
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force support teams are working to control the fire in Bangabazar. An Air Force helicopter also joined the fire control. From 9 am, the air force helicopter was seen throwing water.
24 teams of Elite Force RAB along with detectives are at the scene to support the fire service and maintain law and order in this terrible incident.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the Legal and Media Wing of RAB Headquarters, informed about this to media at 11.30 am on Tuesday.
He said that all RAB battalions in Dhaka and 18 patrol teams from Narayanganj and six teams in plain clothes are assisting the fire service in controlling the fire, traffic management, and working to maintain the law and order situation.
Initially, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were not known. Apart from this, no casualties were reported. However, the fire started on the second floor of Bangabazar Market. Shopkeepers say that such a big accident before Eid has caused them to suffer a miserable loss.
