In a deeply disturbing incident that has shaken the nation, an 8-year-old girl from Magura, who was brutally raped and tortured, has tragically passed away.
The case has prompted immediate action from two government ministries, with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs offering legal assistance and the Ministry of Social Welfare taking charge of the family’s rehabilitation.
The horrific incident unfolded on March 5 when the young girl, Ashiya, was visiting her sister’s house.
According to her sister, Ashiya was raped by her sister’s father-in-law. After the assault, the child fell critically ill.
Shockingly, instead of seeking medical help, the family allegedly locked her inside the house and continued to abuse her.
The truth came to light the next morning, March 6, when a concerned neighbor entered the home and discovered the child’s condition.
Ashiya was rushed to Magura Sadar Hospital, where she was found unconscious.
Initially, her sister’s mother-in-law tried to mislead doctors by claiming the child had been "possessed by a jinn."
However, medical professionals quickly realized the child had been raped. Upon this discovery, the sister’s mother-in-law fled the hospital.
Ashiya’s condition was so severe that she was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Later that night, she was moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was placed on life support.
After two days, she was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
Despite all efforts, Ashiya succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, March 13.
Following the tragedy, Ashiya’s mother filed a case at Magura Sadar Police Station.
The accused include her sister’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister’s husband. Police have since arrested all four individuals.
In response to the case, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs issued a press release on March 15, announcing that it would provide all necessary legal support.
Additionally, the Ministry of Social Welfare has taken responsibility for the mental health and rehabilitation of Ashiya’s family, including her elder sister.
