Md AKM Abdul Hakim, a former Justice of the High Court Division, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) for a period of three years.
The Ministry of Public Administration made the announcement on Wednesday through an official notice.
As per the Press Council Act of 1974, Abdul Hakim must step down from any other jobs or business activities in both government and private sectors before taking on his new role.
The appointment will come into effect once he officially assumes office, the notice mentioned.
This appointment comes after the contract of the previous BPC chairman, Md Nizamul Haque, was ended on September 9.
The decision to replace him was taken by the interim government following the exit of the Hasina administration.
Additionally, an 11-member committee was announced during the first national Anti-Corruption Coordination Council conference.
