Zakia Sultana Jui, an official at mobile financial service provider Nagad and wife of Atik Morshed, former personal assistant to ICT advisor Nahid Islam, has been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for questioning. She has been asked to appear before the commission on Monday, June 2.
According to ACC sources, the summons was made via phone and not through an official letter. The investigation stems from alleged irregularities in recruitment at Nagad and embezzlement of Tk 150 crore.
Preliminary findings from the ACC’s enforcement drive suggest evidence of corruption.
Due to these initial findings, further questioning of Atik Morshed and his wife is being considered.
The ACC previously conducted a raid in February this year as part of an investigation into alleged foreign currency smuggling worth Tk 75,000 crore, involvement of nearly 5,000 unauthorized agents, and violation of financial policies, including excessive foreign ownership in Nagad.
During that earlier operation, the ACC uncovered irregular transactions worth over Tk 600 crore through Nagad’s e-wallet system.
It was also reported that Nagad had allegedly created excessive e-money and used foreign companies as channels for illegal money laundering.
