Aftershocks persist as third quake shakes Narsingdi, nearby districts

A third mild earthquake — identified as another aftershock of Friday’s powerful tremor — was felt across parts of Narsingdi and adjacent districts on Saturday evening, adding to public anxiety in the region.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the latest quake struck at 6:06 pm and measured 4.3 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was 11 kilometres west of Narsingdi, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Earlier in the day, a separate aftershock was recorded in Narsingdi’s Palash upazila. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reported the morning quake at 10:36 am, registering a magnitude of 3.3. Its epicenter was located about 29 kilometres west of the BMD Seismic Centre in Agargaon.

Officials confirmed that no casualties or structural damage were reported from Saturday’s tremors.

Friday’s 5.7-magnitude earthquake, which shook several regions of the country, resulted in at least 10 deaths and dozens of injuries. Of these, four fatalities were reported in Dhaka, five in Narsingdi — the epicenter of the main quake — and one in Narayanganj.
