A Bangladeshi youth was killed on Sunday after the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on a group of suspected cattle smugglers at the Rowmari border in Kurigram.
The deceased was identified as Faridul Islam, 21, hailing from Harindhara village under Rowmari Upazila.
His brother-in-law Shahid Mowla said that he had requested Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to bring the body from the BSF and hand it over to the family.
“We are talking with the BSF in this regard. But they haven’t informed us yet about when they will hand over the body,” said Subedar Ali Ansar, company commander of Jamalpur battalion 35 of Datbhanga BGB camp.
According to the locals, Faridul along with some 30 alleged cattle smugglers gathered near pillar 1057-3-ST of Purba Kauarchar border in Datbhanga Union when some BSF members from the other side of the border fired at them.
Faridul died on the spot and the BSF members took away his body.
