General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff, underscored the critical importance of adopting strategic and reform-oriented leadership to tackle the nation’s evolving challenges and strengthen institutional capabilities.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Capstone Course certificate distribution ceremony at the National Defence College (NDC) on Thursday, the army chief reflected on leadership shortcomings in the country’s past.
“Unfortunately, not all of our great leaders possessed strategic foresight. In times of crisis, many were unable to deliver, resulting in significant losses,” he said.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Waker stressed the importance of dynamic and inclusive leadership in the nation-building process.
He praised the Capstone Course’s peer-learning model and advocated for broader participation from officials across various ministries to foster better coordination and policymaking.
He also underscored the importance of bridging the gap between policy research and government action.
“We have numerous think tanks, but it’s unclear whether their recommendations are reaching the government. We must create effective channels to ensure that valuable insights inform decision-making,” he added.
