The Awami League government has started the process of depoliticization in the country, said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. However, he hopes that the people would revolt again in the spirit of liberation war and establish a truly democratic state by removing the 'monstrous authoritarian government'.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute to party leaders and activists at the Martyred Intellectual Memorial in the capital's Mirpur on Tuesday (December 14) morning.
He said, “Today we pay our deep respects to the martyred intellectuals. On this day, our nation's bright intellectuals, doctors, teachers, journalists, engineers and many others have been brutally killed by the Pakistani aggressors. During the long nine months of war, millions of people have been killed. They have killed intellectuals to make the nation incompetent. ”
He added, "Khaleda Zia has been detained for several years in a false case. At this moment she is at the crossroads of life and death. I have repeatedly demanded that the country's leader Begum Khaleda Zia should be released and arrangements should be made to send her abroad for advanced better treatment. But this anti-democratic, anti-independence government does not want to allow anyone to do politics here, not just Begum Zia. They have started the process of depoliticization in this country. ”
