Expressing concerns over the spread of misinformation against Bangladesh, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday reaffirmed that communal harmony has always prevailed in Bangladesh.

“There is no place in the world with communal harmony like that of Bangladesh. Just look around and observe what is happening. In our country, everyone is working together,” he said while speaking to reporters after visiting the Moha Ashtami holy bath festival for devotees on the banks of the Brahmaputra River at Langalband in Bandar, Narayanganj in the afternoon, reports UNB.

Jahangir Alam said, “Some people deliberately circulate false news for attention and financial gain. Sometimes, foreign media also disseminate misleading information. I urge local media to report the truth. Let their faces be blackened by truth if they spread lies. If we make a mistake, feel free to report it — we have no objection. But do not spread falsehoods. Share the truth.”

Commenting on the event, the Home Adviser noted that the number of devotees attending was significantly higher compared to previous years.

“All necessary security measures are in place. We have also ensured that all essential services are available. We are working in unison — there is no division among Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, or Christians. We all have gathered here as Bangladeshis,” he added.

Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia and District Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumdar were, among others, present at the event.
