The Special Branch of Police in Bangladesh has apologized for an incident at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, where well-known editor Nurul Kabir claimed he was harassed by police officers.

In a statement, the Special Branch said it had started an investigation into the matter and had removed the officer accused of mistreating the New Age editor.

The police explained that the incident happened because of a "blocked list" created by the previous government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

This list included thousands of people, including journalists, activists, and political figures, and was used to prevent them from traveling abroad or to cause problems during their overseas trips.

After the Interim Government took over, the Special Branch began working to remove people from this list, focusing on those with political connections, journalists, dissidents, and rights activists.

Since much of the work is still being done manually, some names have not yet been cleared. The police have promised to speed up the process to ensure the list is cleaned up.

"We sincerely apologize once again for the unfortunate incident. The Bangladesh police consider themselves the people‍‍`s allies and are committed to serving the country with integrity and excellence."
