Covid fatalities jump overnight, infection lowers

A sudden spike in daily Covid-19 fatalities has escalated fear in the country once again. Days after reporting a steady fall in the daily Covid-19 deaths and infections, a sudden surge is worrisome as the deaths come at a time when schools have recently reopened.

In a 24-hour count till Wednesday 8:00 am, Bangladesh reported 51 more fatalities from coronavirus. Meanwhile, fewer cases have been logged during the same period.

With this, the overall Covid-19 deaths in the country has reached 27,058.

On Wednesday (September 15), 1,901 fresh cases were reported by health authorities in daily tally, taking the cluster of Covid-19 infections to 1,536,341.

On the flip side, 3,873 Covid-19 patients recovered from the infectious disease through treatment at home and in hospitals taking the total number of recoveries to 1,490,541.

Earlier, on Tuesday (September 14), deaths hit 3-month lowest as 35 deaths were reported in a 24-hour count.

Since the delta variant of coronavirus hit the country, June 7 saw the lowest deaths in daily tally with 30 deaths.

In the regular bulletin of the health department on Wednesday afternoon, it was disclosed that the number of patients identified has decreased compared to the last day. On the contrary, the number of deaths has increased.

The figures were recorded between Tuesday 8:00 am and Wednesday 8:00 am.

The latest Covid-19 situation in the country was revealed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its routine daily statement.

The DGHS report also revealed that the capital Dhaka reported the highest figures in terms of cases and fatalities, followed by the port city Chattogram.

Dhaka division reported 20 deaths, while Chattogram reported 11 deaths. The rest of the deaths were reported from other divisions.
