Bangladesh is set to import 130,000 metric tons of diesel from India, at an estimated cost of 1,137 crore taka.

The news was shared by Times of India on Tuesday, January 14.

The decision was approved during a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) on Sunday.

The diesel will be imported from India’s Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) over the course of this year, with deliveries expected between January and December.

This year, BPC has projected a demand for 7.4 million metric tons of refined fuel, which includes 4.6 million metric tons of diesel.

Of this, 80% will be imported, with the rest sourced from local refineries.

For years, BPC has regularly imported refined fuel from India’s Numaligarh Refinery, with deliveries made by train since January 2016.

In a related development, the interim government of Bangladesh had previously decided to import 50,000 tons of non-Basmati boiled rice from India to meet domestic needs.
