Bbaria trawler capsize: Death toll climbs to 17

The death tolls climbed at 17 following a passenger trawler capsize after it collided with a sand laden trawler in Brahmanbaria.

Among the deceased nine were women while three were children. However, details of the victims could not be known immediately.  

District police super (SP) Md. Anisur Rahman confirmed the recovery of 17 bodies..

Mentioning the rescue operation to continue he said, the number of death might increase.  

He said, among the rescued passengers several were in critical condition. They were taken to local hospitals.

Earlier, the incident took place at Loiska lake in Bijoynagar upazila of the district around 5:15 pm on Friday (August 27).

The sunk trawler left Champaknagar ghat of Bijoynagar upazila with more than one hundred passengers for Anandabazar ghat of Sadar upazila and collided with another sand laden trawler coming from opposite director. The collision turned the passenger trawler turtle, told Officer in Charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, Mohammed Emranul Islam to The Report Confirming the vicinity of the matter.

Members of police and fire service and civil defence have joined the rescue operation, added he.
