British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday at the State Guest House in Dhaka, ahead of his upcoming official visit to the United Kingdom.
During the meeting, High Commissioner Cooke congratulated Professor Yunus on being selected as a recipient of the prestigious King Charles Harmony Award. In response, the Chief Adviser described the recognition as ‘a great honour’.
Professor Yunus is scheduled to depart for London on June 9 and return on June 13. His visit will include meetings with senior British government officials, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The meeting covered a wide range of mutual interests, including trade and investment, civil aviation cooperation, migration, and the interim government`s ongoing efforts in asset recovery.
The High Commissioner and the Chief Adviser also discussed the latest political developments in Bangladesh and recent reform initiatives undertaken by the interim administration.
Professor Yunus briefed the British envoy on the progress of the second round of dialogues between the National Consensus Building Commission and major political parties. He expressed hope that the discussions would conclude soon, contributing to the country’s democratic roadmap.
Additionally, the Chief Adviser conveyed Bangladesh’s interest in expanding its ocean research capabilities, and sought UK’s technical assistance, including training from British researchers, to support these efforts.
The meeting was also attended by Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy to the Chief Adviser; Lamiya Morshed, SDG Coordinator; and James Goldman, Deputy British High Commissioner.
