Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday congratulated the nation after voting in the 13th national parliamentary election and the referendum on the July National Charter ended peacefully.
In a statement issued by his press wing after polling closed at 4:30 pm, Yunus said the calm and festive atmosphere reflected the country’s strong commitment to democratic values. He credited voters, political parties, candidates and institutions for acting responsibly throughout the day.
He said citizens played a direct role in shaping the country’s future by exercising their constitutional rights, calling the voter turnout and conduct encouraging for Bangladesh’s democracy.
The chief adviser expressed appreciation for the work of the Election Commission, law enforcement agencies, armed forces, civil administration, election observers, media workers and polling officials. He said their effort and discipline made it possible to manage such a large national exercise smoothly.
Yunus also urged political parties and candidates to maintain tolerance and mutual respect once the final results are announced. While differences are natural, he said, unity must come first in the national interest.
He described the election as one of the most peaceful and joyful in the country’s history and said it marked the beginning of a new chapter for Bangladesh. If this standard can be sustained, he added, democracy in the country will grow stronger.
Calling on all sides to continue working together, Yunus said the goal now is to build a state that is accountable, inclusive and based on justice.
