Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has returned to Dhaka this morning, concluding his four-day official visit to London.
His flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 9:45 am, confirmed Foyez Ahammad, Senior Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
The primary focus of Prof Yunus’s visit was to discuss the recovery of stolen assets siphoned off from Bangladesh, particularly funds laundered to the UK during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, reportedly amounting to US$ 234 billion, according to Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
During his stay, Prof Yunus met BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to discuss Bangladesh’s upcoming general election and possible political reforms.
He also held a telephone conversation with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, discussing Bangladesh’s economic recovery and educational opportunities for Rohingya children.
Prof Yunus received the prestigious King Charles III Harmony Award in recognition of his contributions to global harmony and sustainable development.
He also met key figures including UK House of Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle, UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, and Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.
Additionally, Prof Yunus engaged with Airbus and Menzies Aviation executives and participated in an event at Chatham House.
