The prices of sacrificial cattle in this year`s Eid-ul-Azha markets have dropped significantly due to an increase in supply and the absence of corruption, according to the Adviser for Home Affairs, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
During a visit to the Gabtoli cattle market in Dhaka on Thursday, June 5, the adviser noted that with the previous ruling party no longer in power, corrupt individuals have also been removed from the system. As a result, fewer people have excess money to spend, including on purchasing cattle.
He expressed satisfaction with the overall management and law-and-order situation at the market. "The security and traffic arrangements are under control. If everyone continues to cooperate, the Eid journey for homebound citizens will be much smoother," he said while interacting with buyers, sellers, service providers, and law enforcement personnel.
Responding to questions about high ticket prices and transport shortages during Eid, the adviser stated that no formal complaints had been submitted to him yet.
However, he assured that authorities would investigate any complaints that arise and consider increasing the number of public transport vehicles to meet the holiday demand.
The adviser also addressed concerns regarding the muddy conditions at the market caused by recent rain. He mentioned that the responsibility for resolving this issue, such as laying sand to absorb the mud, falls on the market leaseholders.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury entered the cattle market on foot from the Gabtoli Bus Terminal, speaking along the way with passengers, transport workers, cattle buyers, and security personnel to observe and assess the ground-level situation firsthand.
