A Dhaka court has directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to submit its probe report against nine people including Managing Director of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Taqsem A Khan in a graft case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Asaduzzaman passed the order on Monday to submit the ACC report on April 4.
Gaffer Hossain, the lawyer of the plaintiff, confirmed this information.
Md Shahab Uddin Sarkar, general secretary of Dhaka WASA Employees Multipurpose Cooperative Society, filed the case for embezzling Tk 132 crore.
Other accused are Dhaka WASA Engineer Sharmin Haque Amir, former revenue inspector Mia Md Mizanur Rahman, Engineer Md Aktaruzzaman, Revenue Inspector Zakir Hossain, Engineer Badrul Alam, Janata Bank’s former DGM Shyamal Biswas, Deputy Secretary Sheikh Enayet Ullah and Deputy Chief Accounting Officer Salekur Rahman.
According to the case statement, Dhaka WASA Employees Multipurpose Cooperative Society received Tk 99.65 crore between July 16, 2017, and June 30, 2018, from the water authority as commission for their revenue collection work.
Apart from this, the cooperative also received Tk 34.18 crore for the same work during 2018 and 2019, said the plaintiff. Of the amount, Tk 1.79 crore was deposited in the association’s account from the 2017 to 2018 fiscal years, but the remaining Tk132.4 crore from six banks was embezzled, allegedly by those named in the complaint, through different cheques.
