The Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway is now torn under the pressure of traffic. Today, this road is under the pressure of people returning home for Eid. At least 40 kilometers of traffic has been created on the highway since this morning. From 4 o‍‍`clock in the morning, the traffic crossed from the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge to Baoikhola of Sadar Upazila of Tangail.

Police officers and locals on duty to control traffic on the highway said that the work on the highway adjacent to the eastern side of the Bangabandhu Bridge is still ongoing. Traffic here is slow even after 15 km. Apart from this, there is an increase in the number of vehicles during Eid, accidents on bridges, vehicle breakdowns, stoppage of toll collection, and reckless driving by drivers.

Due to the traffic jam on the highway, people heading home are in trouble. Especially those who are traveling in open trucks and pickups for not getting a bus, have suffered due to the intermittent rain.

Two vehicles collided and a pickup broke down on the Bangabandhu Bridge in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It takes at least an hour to remove the broken-down vehicle. The bridge authorities also stopped toll collection from 4:15 am to 4:53 am. Before this, toll collection was stopped several times due to various reasons. It started a traffic jam on the highway.

Elenga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahid Hasan told reporters that the traffic congestion started due to the accident on the bridge and on the highway. Vehicular movement has resumed, hopefully, the situation will return to normal soon.
