Rail services on the Dhaka–Mymensingh route have been suspended after four coaches of the Dhaka-bound Jamalpur Commuter Train derailed just before entering Gafargaon Railway Station in Mymensingh.
The accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
Mymensingh Railway Station Superintendent Abdullah Al Harun confirmed the incident.
He said senior railway officials visited the scene after being informed of the accident, and a relief train has already been dispatched for the recovery operation.
Quoting eyewitnesses, he said the four coaches immediately behind the locomotive derailed with a loud bang at around 9:20 a.m., moments before the train entered Gafargaon Station. No casualties or major damage were immediately reported.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akhtar Hossain of the Mymensingh Railway Police told the state-run news agency that the commuter train, which was travelling from Dewanganj in Jamalpur to Dhaka, was involved in the accident. The cause of the derailment is yet to be determined.
He added that the relief train is working to recover the derailed coaches. Train services on the Dhaka–Mymensingh route will resume once the recovery operation is completed.
