8 killed in head-on collision between two buses in Sylhet

At least eight people were killed and several others injured after two passenger buses collided head-on in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway in the Kashikapon area of Osmaninagar on Friday morning.

According to police, a Dhaka-bound Unique Paribahan bus collided head-on with a Sylhet-bound Bengal Sleeper Coach bus. Following the crash, the Unique Paribahan bus veered off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch.

Seven passengers of the Unique Paribahan bus died at the scene. A three-year-old child who was critically injured was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared the child dead. All eight victims were passengers of the Unique Paribahan bus.

After receiving information about the crash, members of Sherpur Highway Police, Osmaninagar Police Station, and the Fire Service launched rescue operations. The bodies have been taken into the custody of the Highway Police and are being transported to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Osmaninagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mostafa confirmed the number of casualties. He said the identities of the deceased and the injured could not be immediately established.

He also said that traffic on the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway remained normal following the accident.
