The overall law and order situation in the country is fully under control, and law enforcement agencies are on high alert to prevent any form of misconduct or unrest, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said.
He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists during a press briefing on current issues at the Home Ministry in the Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.
The home minister said intelligence agencies and law enforcement forces remain vigilant to curb extremism and maintain internal security.
Responding to a question about strengthening police security, Salahuddin Ahmed said it is part of the police’s regular activities. He said officers are routinely instructed to remain alert so that no one becomes careless while conducting patrols or performing duties. He added that there is no reason to view the matter differently.
Referring to activities by the banned political party, the home minister said there is no scope for them to carry out any disruptive activities. He said they have no ability to influence the situation on the ground apart from occasionally making appearances on social media from abroad.
He also said recent incidents involving the NCP would be thoroughly investigated and necessary action would be taken based on the findings.
Responding to a question about the presidential election, the home minister said the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission.
