Six more children have died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, while 818 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms have been reported. Laboratory tests also confirmed 85 new measles infections during the same period.
The information was disclosed in the Directorate General of Health Services` (DGHS) latest measles situation report published on Thursday.
According to the report, four children died with measles symptoms in the Dhaka Division and two in the Sylhet Division over the past 24 hours.
The DGHS said that a total of 860 people have died from measles and measles-like symptoms nationwide between March 15 and Thursday. Of them, 764 died with measles symptoms, while 96 died after laboratory confirmation of measles.
During the past 24 hours, 85 new measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing, while another 733 people developed symptoms of the disease. In total, 818 people were reported with confirmed measles or measles-like symptoms during the period.
According to DGHS data, a total of 133,638 people have developed measles-like symptoms nationwide since March 15. During the same period, 16,740 people have been laboratory-confirmed with measles.
The health authority also reported that 115,879 people with confirmed measles or measles-like symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15. Of them, 111,857 have been discharged after receiving treatment.
