The Parliament Secretariat has sent the voter list to the Election Commission (EC) for the 23rd presidential election. The list was submitted to the EC on Thursday.

After receiving the voter list from the Parliament Secretariat, the Election Commission will announce the schedule or date for the presidential election.

Earlier, the EC had sent a letter to the Parliament Secretariat requesting the voter list for the presidential election. Recently, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that the commission had requested the Parliament Secretariat to provide the list.

Speaking to journalists at the Election Building on Monday, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that discussions on the election date and schedule would take place after receiving the voter list.

It may be noted that 22nd President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned on July 24, citing health reasons. Preparations are now underway to elect a new president to fill the vacant post.

Only members of parliament are eligible to vote in the presidential election. Therefore, the Election Commission will prepare and publish the voter list based on the list of MPs.
