"Dining not allowed in restaurants without vaccine card"

With concerns of the new and highly transmissible variant of coronavirus, the Omicron variant, a top-level inter-ministerial meeting was held on Monday (January 3). 

Several decisions have come from the top concerned authorities following the meeting. 

Even though the health minister said that the government has no plan to impose a lockdown currently, but he stressed the need to enforce a mask mandate and other health directives to avert another crisis.

After the meeting, while speaking to reporters health minister Zahid Maleque said that dining at restaurants will not be allowed without showing vaccine card. 

He also said that strict legal measures will be taken against tehe restaurant if they fail to comply by this rule. 

The meeting was presided by the Home Minister on how to curb the emerging Omicron variant in the country. Secretaries of all ministries, DCs of eight divisions and members of the law enforcement agency were present at the meeting. 

Bangladesh has reported 10 cases of the new omicron strain so far. Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases are back on rise in the country, spreading fear of a fresh outbreak.

Health authorities reported 674 cases in a 24-hour count, a high number for three days straight days.
