The Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) has announced that posters will not be allowed in campaign activities for the upcoming 2025 national parliamentary elections.
However, candidates and political parties will be permitted to use billboards, banners, festoons, and social media platforms for election promotion.
The EC has given preliminary approval to the draft electoral code of conduct, which includes this new restriction on poster usage.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, June 19, following a commission meeting held at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazl Md. Sanaullah confirmed the decision.
"The use of posters for election campaigns will not be allowed in the parliamentary election," he said.
Sanaullah also mentioned that several updates have been made to the existing code of conduct, and the penalties for violations have been significantly increased.
Under the new draft, violators may face up to six months of imprisonment and fines up to BDT 150,000. Previously, the maximum fine was BDT 50,000.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin and continued from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
