The Election Reform Commission has recommended that people involved in serious crimes, such as murder and enforced disappearances, should be banned from running in elections.

The commission‍‍`s head, Badiul Alam Majumder, shared this recommendation during a discussion with journalists at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Tuesday.

Badiul Alam Majumder said,

“The majority of people do not want those who were involved in the July coup, those who committed murder and forced disappearances, to be in charge of the country again. Therefore, it has been recommended that they be excluded from the elections.”

Majumder also pointed out that the previous three election commissions had failed to do their job properly and had violated their oaths of office.

The commission has suggested forming an investigation committee to bring those responsible to justice.

To ensure the election process is free from corruption, the commission has proposed changes to the electoral system.
